On April 30th, the 82nd anniversary of the opening day of the Fair, we held our first official membership meeting. We started small, but we were a determined bunch\u2026 now our membership has grown to over 300.<\/p>\n<p>We are a diverse group of people that meet\u00a0every month in St. Louis, Missouri.\u00a0 Some of us collect memorabilia\u2026 some of us are interested in digging up the facts and setting the record straight\u2026 some of us are interested in finding the bits and pieces of the fair that still exist\u2026 some of us have family connections to the fair\u2026 and some of us just find it interesting.<\/p>\n<p>The Society has\u00a0published a video documentary of Fair attendees, printed a book, discovered and purchased the masterworks to the 1904 Fair\u2019s Floral Clock (which is currently on display at the Missouri History Museum), produced several post cards, minted a commemorative silver medal for the Fair\u2019s centennial, and made a large donation to the renovation of the St. Louis Zoo\u2019s Bird Cage, originally built for the 1904 World\u2019s Fair.<\/p>\n<p>Members receive the monthly mailing of the newsletter, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/1904worldsfairsociety.org\/wfs\/bulletins-2024\/\"><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The World\u2019s Fair Bulletin<\/span><\/em><\/a>\u201d.\u00a0 Each issue contains\u00a0articles of World\u2019s Fair interest and information on upcoming meetings and events.\u00a0 Members are encouraged to send letters, questions, and articles related to the Fair. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a style=\"color: #800000;\" href=\"https:\/\/1904worldsfairsociety.org\/wfs\/store-2\/new-membership-joining-between-jan-1-and-june-30\/\">Please consider joining the Society.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Our <a href=\"https:\/\/1904worldsfairsociety.org\/wfs\/calendar\/\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">monthly meetings<\/span><\/a> feature programs covering a wide range of Fair-related topics, such as music, food, fashions, exhibits, memorabilia, and even 3-D slide shows.\u00a0 <strong>Visitors are always welcome at our monthly meetings.\u00a0 <\/strong>Every December, we have a formal Closing Day Observance Banquet to commemorate the closing day of the Fair.<\/p>\n<p>In 1904, St. Louis recognized the importance of the Louisiana Purchase Treaty to the history of the United States by inviting the country and the world to participate in the \u201cgreatest of expositions\u201d. \u00a0The 1904 World\u2019s Fair Society wants to keep the memories alive. \u00a0We hope you explore the various links provided herein and explore the wonders of the 1904 World\u2019s Fair.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%;\"><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%;\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In April 1986, a handful of people got together, under the leadership of founder Max Storm, to discuss the formation of a society with a mission dedicated to \u201cpreserving the memory and memorabilia of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition\u201d.
